Hear Our Stories

Harc changes peoples’ lives for the better in so many ways. Here are some of our family members talking about the positive impact Harc has had on their loved ones. Would you like to become an advocate and share your story? Contact Marian Leist at mleist@harc-ct.org

Have a Harc Day 2022

We hosted a virtual Have a Harc Day on February 14, 2022. Representative Matt Ritter, Speaker of the CT House of Representatives, hosted our event. You can watch the full program here.

Watch this special message from State Representative Catherine Abercrombie, Chair of the Human Services Committee, and Harc supporter. She was the host of our virtual Have a Harc Day 2021.

Becoming an Advocate

Harc parent, Bob Cloonan, talks about his experience raising a daughter with disabilities and how others can advocate for their loved ones.

More Funding for the I/DD Community

Toni Alphonse, a proud Harc parent describes how Harc has helped her family and her son enjoy lives of quality and inclusion. She respectfully asks for more funding for agencies like Harc, that provide exceptional care to individuals like her son.

Supporting the I/DD Community

The Duffy Family speaks about how you can support the I/DD community. Joe Duffy describes how his daughter has flourished with residential, employment, and socialization services and why it is so important to support the I/DD Caucus.

Raising a Child with Medical Needs

Christine Skeggs, a Harc parent, describes the challenges of raising her son, Kevin, who has advanced medical needs and disabilities. Christine explains how Harc’s Day program met Kevin’s needs by providing him with 1:1 nursing care. Learn more here.

Empowering Families with Young Children

Carla, a parent from Harc’s Birth to Three Program, speaks about her son, who received services for a gross motor delay. Fortunately, with the help of Harc and an occupational therapist, he was able to catch up and strengthen his muscles. Carla highly recommends the services and expertise of our Birth to Three program.

A Self Advocate’s Message

Jordan, a Harc self advocate, delivers a special message about how she likes her job at SockStarz and misses Harc.
