HARC, Inc. is pleased to announce that Chief Operating Officer Stanley Ingersoll, will serve as Interim President/CEO upon the retirement of HARC’s President /CEO of thirty-six years, Dr. Stephen Becker, on July 12, 2013. The search for HARC’s next President/CEO is being conducted by Third Sector New England.
Ingersoll became HARC’s first Director of Residential Services in 1982. The intellectual disability movement had introduced the idea of small neighborhood community residences as a viable and preferable residential option to replace large institutional settings, and HARC’s first “group home” on Asylum Avenue in West Hartford was opened that year under Ingersoll’s direction. Today HARC maintains 11 group homes and condominiums, 11 individual support settings and 9 community companion homes throughout Greater Hartford. Ingersoll became HARC’s Chief Operating Officer in 2008.
Ingersoll relates, “The transition in leadership affords HARC another important opportunity to strengthen its long history of providing quality services to our participants and families. With our participants, families, staff and board of directors, I look forward to working with a new CEO and building upon Steve’s exceptional accomplishments.”
About HARC
HARC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with intellectual disability and their families. It was founded in 1951 by families, long before community services were available and institutionalization was the only option. HARC remains a strong advocate for civil rights and opportunities, and a major provider of clinical and supportive programs that span the entire lifetime: early intervention (Birth-to-Three), family support, respite care, employment and day services, residential, recreation, behavioral health and elderly services.
