Hartford, CT, June 2012 The 2012 HARC Family Classic and Hole-in-One-Dinner took place on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Golf Club of Avon, and raised a fabulous $191,000. This year’s tournament-style golf and evening of dining and celebration honored two special people who have meant a great deal to all of us at HARC over the last 8 years, participating in HARC events such as the Annual Walkathons and the Golf Tournaments.
The honoree was David McElroy of Arch Insurance Group. HARC has been very fortunate to count David among its most enthusiastic supporters. David’s generosity, selflessness and leadership have positively impacted many lives.
This year’s Family Classic was dedicated to the memory of John Keane, former president and CEO of Interim Healthcare, a major contributor and loyal patron of HARC. John embodied the spirit of our organization in his tireless support of families challenged by intellectual and related disabilities. He was an inspiration to us all, and he will be missed greatly.
This year’s golf tournament was chaired by Peter Zaffino, president and CEO of Marsh and co-chaired by Don Bailey of Allstate, Michael S. Cady of Guy Carpenter and Tim Gardner of Marsh. The golf committee consisted of Chrissy Barnard, Jackie Benton, Sara Allan, Diane Fanelli, Kelli Hermsen, Tracy James, Kelly McDonough, Jen Schulz, David Simmons and Bob Wild.
Funds raised from the event will benefit HARC’s Respite Program, a service that helps families deal with the daily challenge and joy of caring for a loved one with intellectual disability. Most of the services provided by HARC’s Family Support Program do not receive government funding, so now, more than ever, support is needed.
