Harc Teams Up with YACO International for Their Back to School Drive
Stephen Agbo, a residential assistant in our Woodland Group home, is the founder of YACO International, a nonprofit organization that helps kids in Ghana with Back to School Supplies.
When Stephen was visiting his home country of Ghana he saw a school aged kid and asked him,
“Why are you not going to school?”
The student responded, “My peers will laugh at me because I don’t have shoes and a backpack.”
Stephen then asked the parents, “Why does he not have supplies for school?”
In sadness the family responded, “We cannot pay for supplies.”
Stephen then asked, “If you have a backpack and shoes can you go to school?”
The young child responded, “Yes!”
As a result Stephen decided to form Yaco International. For only $50 a child can go to school. Stephen is asking for your support. This year while you are doing back to school shopping, please consider donating some of your supplies to YACO International.
YACO International is in special need of the following items:
- Backpacks (ages 6-12)
- Shoes (ages 6-12)
- Boots (ages 6-12)
- Writing Books
- Starter reading books
- Socks (ages 6-12)
- Uniforms – khaki pants/shorts, solid color polo-type shirts (ages 6-12)
- art supplies
- glue sticks
Supplies can be dropped off at any time at Harc in the lobby (Look for the YACO International Collection Box). Also on Friday, August 30th Stephen will be holding a Collection Drive and you can drop off your supplies at Harc at 900 Asylum Avenue in Hartford, CT.
Once supplies are collected Stephen will personally deliver the items to the children in the villages. He has a team of volunteers that assist him with the project to ensure that supplies are delivered to those in need.
